Edward J. Cassin

Edward J. Cassin, a 35 year resident of Warwick, passed away on July 12. 2012, at Schervier Pavilion.  He was 96 years old.

He was married for 52 years to the late Anne (O’Neill) Cassin (1995).

Born on July 28, 1915 in the Bronx, he was one of ten children of the late James and Ellen (McGoldrick) Cassin.

Mr. Cassin served with the US Army during World War II and was a disabled veteran, having received the Purple Heart.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 214, Warwick and the VFW Post #4662, Warwick. 

A retired Detective of the New York City Police Department-Mounted Division,  he was a member of the New York City Police Department Patrolmen Benevolent Association and the Detective Endowment Association.   He was the Head Groundsman for the Warwick Little League for twenty years and has a little league field named in his honor.  A parishioner of St. Stephen’s RC Church, he served as an usher.

He is survived by his children:  Denise and her husband Edward McEntee of Warwick, Barbara and her husband John McGovern of Warwick, Gregory Cassin and his wife Patricia of Chesterfield, VA and Jeannine and her husband William Kiely of Warwick; eight grandchildren: James (Heather) McEntee, Kori McGovern (George) Yioupis, Kevin McGovern, Patrick (Georgia) McEntee, Traci-Ann Cassin (Michael) Dracoulis, Bridget McGovern (Christopher) Fagan, Edward (Isabel) Cassin, and Brianne Kiely (William) Curley; and his great-grandchildren:  Emily McEntee, Molly McEntee, Jack Yioupis, Ian Dracoulis, Annabel Dracoulis, Sean Fagan, Ryan Yioupis, Sydni Dracoulis, Thomas Fagan, Mathew Yioupis, Meadow McEntee, Layla McEntee and Henry Cassin.  He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters:  James, John, Charles, Denis Mc Carthy, Catherine Redmond, Helen Delaney, Martha Hennessey, Blondie Tassielli, and Agnes Flynn.

Visitation will be on Sunday, July 15th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Monday at St. Stephens RC Church, followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Valhalla.
