Walter J. Andrews

Walter J. Andrews, a 25 year resident of Greenwood Lake, passed away at home, after a long fought battle with mesothelioma,  on January 29, 2016.  He was 68 years old. 

Born on September 3, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mary (Randazzo) Andrews. 

He was married to Geraldine “Gerry” (Chetti) Andrews.

He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. 

Walter was a Supervisor of Carpenters with the Department of the Homeless in New York City and was a member of Carpenters Local 157.  He was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 121 in Greenwood Lake for 17 years and helped shape the lives of many young men, as well as volunteering through scouting.  He served on the Board of the Greenwood Park Association and was very active in the community, generously helping many people along the way.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry, of Greenwood Lake; his two sons:  Paul Andrews and his wife Kayla of Greenwood Lake and Daniel Andrews and his wife Kelli of Hubert, NC; one granddaughter, Isabel Andrews, and a grandson expected in May; a sister, Maryann Simonetti of Merrick, NY; a brother, Michael Andrews of New York, NY; a half-sister, Lisa Stack of AZ;   and his nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 31st, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday, February 1st, at Holy Rosary Church, Greenwood Lake, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
