Thomas Kondakjian

Thomas Kondakjian of Warwick, NY, formerly of East Setauket, Long Island and Lake Ariel, PA, passed away on August 6, 2021. He was 89 years old.

 

Born in New Brunswick, NJ on March 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Robert and Elmas Kondakjian.

 

Thomas served proudly in the United States Air Force, from 1952-1960 during the Korean War.  Later he worked for Stony Brook University and was one of only a few people in the world who worked on the  German Electron Microscope.  

 

An avid golfer, he played golf daily back in the day. Thomas also served as Board President and member of The Hideout community association in Lake Ariel, PA. Upon moving to Warwick, he was an active member of the American Legion Post 214; he was proud to be an American and often known as “Mr. USA” on the golf course. And we can’t forget how Thomas loved his McDonald’s “senior coffee.”

 

Predeceased by his wife, Carol (nee Kern); son, Thomas; daughter, Karlene and brother, Harry; Thomas is survived by his devoted daughter Karen Gauvin and beautiful granddaughter, Hailey Gauvin of Warwick and sister, Mary Sarkissian of Metuchen, NJ.

 

The family will receive friends at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 from 1:00 -3:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery, Riverhead, NY, on Wednesday, August 11 with military honors.
