Marvin Arnold Braxton, born on February 27, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, entered into rest on December 28, 2008 at Westchester Medical Center in New York.
He was the son of Bernice Braxton and the late Larkin Braxton. He was the husband of Beverly S. Braxton, a Warwick school teacher.
Prior to his life in Warwick, where he worked as a carpenter for over 30 years, Marvin grew up in Philadelphia, PA, where he studied the craft of cabinet making. He received an Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army for his service from 1962-1965 during which he was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany, Upon return, he enrolled in Community College of Philadelphia (CCP), where he met Beverly Spivey, whom he married in 1971. This union was blessed with two beautiful children.
Marvin moved his family to Warwick, NY in 1973. He was a devoted husband and father, a gifted craftsman, and a dear friend who touched the lives of many people. He was a life=long learner, studying many subjects on his own, and was an avid reader. He had a strong commitment to nurturing his spiritual life, through the teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff, and found solace and communion at his cabin in Maine and in his vegetable garden in Warwick.
His friends and family remember him as a man of great integrity, a meticulous worker, and a devoted mentor and teacher to many. Marvin approached life with humility, humor, and grace. Those who knew him will carry with them the gifts and wisdom he imparted on his life’s journey.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Beverly of Warwick, NY; daughter, Amadee; son, Symeon; mother, Bernice Sherman; three sisters and five brothers, all of whom reside in Philadelphia, PA.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm on January 10, 2009 at the Mulder Chapel of the Warwick Center, 62 Hoyt Road, Warwick.
