Robert Joseph Larkin

of Warwick, passed away on February 18, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Warwick, NY.  He was 78 years old.

 

Born on November 30, 1930 in New York City, he was the son of the late John Larkin and Irene Barry Larkin.

 

He was married to Rosemary Mullins Larkin.

 

Bob was a four year Navy veteran during the Korean Way and was a member of American Legion Post #214, Warwick, NY.

 

Bob served with the New York City Police Department for 32 years and retired as a Captain of Detectives.  Bob was a member of the 10-13, an association of retired and active New York City Police officers, and the American Legion, Post 214, Warwick, NY.  Bob was an avid marathon runner and golfer.  He loved to fish.  Bob was a member of the Warwick Valley Country Club.  He was a parishioner of St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church and an usher at the 5:00 pm Mass.

 

Bob and Rosemary were married in St. Veronica’s RC Church in Greenwich Village on June 7, 1958 and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

 

The family would like to thank all the staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital, especially the Emergency Room, I.C.U., the First Floor nurses and aides, who treated him like a family member, Drs. Bezdicek and Alvarez, religious pastoral women and men, caseworkers and dietary staff.

 

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Larkin of Warwick; a son, Barry Larkin and his wife Kate of Old Bridge; a daughter, Colleen Larkin of Warwick; grandchildren: Christopher Barwick, Drew and Paige Larkin; a sister, Florence Ruffini of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by three brothers: John Larkin, William Larkin and Harold Larkin; two sisters: Mary Fisher and Eileen Fogarty.

 

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 22nd,from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, February 23rd, at St. Stephens RC Church, Warwick. Interment with military honors will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to The Penning’s Field Recreational Program for our St. Stephens School Children, c/o St. Stephens Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY 10990.
