Vincent S. Conklin, a 61 year resident of Warwick, NY, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at St. Anthony Community Hospital. He was 90.
Vincent (Vinny) was born on December 26, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Aubrey Conklin and Regina (Delaney) Conklin.
He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving as a Gunners Mate, and was honorably discharged after serving three years. He received the Good Conduct medal, Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific medal with one star, Navy & Marine Corps medal, American Theatre medal, and a personal citation by Admiral Nimitz.
He retired in 1988 from the Rawlplug Company in New Rochelle, NY where he worked for 46 years.
Vincent is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Hommey Conklin; his three children: Marie McFadden and husband Larry of Chesapeake, VA, Regina Ball and husband Richard of Warwick, NY, and Catherine Conklin of Virginia Beach, VA; two granddaughters: Stephanie McCombs and husband Michael of Chesapeake, VA and Heather Hardy and husband Charles of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by three great-granddaughters: Samantha, Amanda, and Megan McCombs, and a great-step-grandson, Aadyn Hardy. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Mary Miller of Belle Vernon, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Conklin, Aubrey Conklin and his wife Frances, Eugene Conklin and his wife Catherine, a brother-in-law, Charles Hommey and his wife Margaret, brother-in-law, Robert Hommey and his wife Hannah Grace, and brother-in-law, Joseph Miller, and several nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Wang, Dr. Raspa and Dr. Obligado, the nurses and staff on the 1st floor and the ER staff at St. Anthony Community Hospital.
The family will gather at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 9th, at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick and proceed to Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen for a 1:00 pm graveside service.
