passed away peacefully at her Warwick home on October 24, 2008. She was 78 years old.
Born on December 10, 1929 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Walter Arthur and Mary Arnold Philippi Woodruff. She grew up in Washington, DC and Morristown, New Jersey. She was an alumna of St. Mary’s School in Peekskill, NY and attended the Holton-Arms School in Washington and Goucher College. She worked at the Morristown Memorial Hospital before marrying and moving to Warwick, New York.
Mrs. Bradner is pre-deceased by her husband and well-known Warwick surgeon, Dr. Morris Renfrew Bradner, Jr.
A homemaker and a philanthropist, Mrs. Bradner was active in community organizations for many years. A long-time and former executive board member as corresponding secretary of the Historical Society of the Town of Warwick, she gave generously of her time and financial assistance in various projects such as the establishment of the medical office at the Hasbrouck Carriage Barn.
Mrs. Bradner was a dedicated member of the St. Anthony Community Hospital Auxiliary and Century Club. In 1997, she was responsible for the establishment of the Bradner Heart Fund at the Hospital as a lasting memorial to her late husband, who died of a sudden heart attack in 1996. Since then, with donations raised through the fund, the hospital has added vitally needed equipment to its cardiac care unit and helped equip the Warwick Police, Fire & Ambulance Departments and local schools with automated external defibrillators utilized by first response emergency rescue units to save the lives of victims of sudden cardiac arrest.
Mrs. Bradner also was an active member of the Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties since 1972.
She is survived by her children: M. R. Bradner III and his wife Donna Fry Bradner of Warwick, NY, George Batchelor Bradner and his wife Kris Bradner of Colchester, CT, Mary Arnold Bradner-Lee and her husband Jonathon David Lee of Sydney, Australia, and Jane Elizabeth Bradner, of Warwick; her grandchildren: Jacqueline A. Bradner-Cooperman, Jodi Bradner, Nicole Bradner, Sarah Bradner, Meghan Bradner, and Shelly F. Garry.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1st, at 2pm in the Mulder Chapel at the Warwick Conference Center.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Bradner Heart Fund, St. Anthony Community Hospital, 15 Maple Ave., Warwick, NY 10990, The Historical Society of the Town of Warwick, or the charity of one’s choice.
