
Georgeine M. Wendel, a longtime resident of Warwick, passed away on April 27, 2017 at St. Anthony Community Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old.
Born on November 8, 1934 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Elizabeth (Carney) Ewald.
Georgeine married William Wendel on May 28, 1955 and they would soon be celebrating their 62nd anniversary.
She formerly worked for the Times Herald Record, Middletown as a District Manager in the Circulation Department. She was a loving and caring woman who did good deeds throughout her life and made a difference to so many people. She was a member of St. Stephen the First Martyr Church in Warwick, where she was an usher and former trustee, and a member of and former president of the Sodality, chairperson of many fundraisers, including the Annual Bazaar, Bingo, 200 Club and was well known for the annual roast beef dinner.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bill, and five children: William Wendel, Jr. and companion Pam Spreer of Wallkill, Arthur Wendel of Warwick, Richard Wendel and his wife Lisa of Newburgh, Robert Wendel and his wife Elizabeth of Ridgefield, CT, and Georgeine Phipps and her husband Stephen of Warwick; her beloved fifteen grandchildren: Ashley, Kyle, Bryan, Arthur, Kaitlyn, Richard, Jr., Nicole, Lauren, Annie, Robert, Eliza, Stephen, Stephanie, Thomas and Charlie; and her sister, Connie (Elizabeth) Boccagna of Bronx, NY. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Rita Wendel.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 30th, from 2-5 pm & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Monday at St. Stephen RC Church, Warwick, followed by interment in St. Stephen Cemetery.
She lived life to the fullest for her husband, children and grandchildren and will be missed by many. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the medical staff at Schervier Pavilion and St. Anthony’s Community Hospital for their loving care of Georgeine during her illness.
