Kathleen P. Smith

of Warwick, NY (formerly of Oakland, NJ) passed away, surrounded by her family,  on February 28, 2010 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen.  She was 73 years old.

 

Born on February 22, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Kathleen (Ronaldson) Hone.

 

She was married to Herman Smith.

 

Before retiring, Mrs. Smith was Secretary to the Borough Administrator  of Oakland, NJ.  She was a member of St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick.

 

A family statement read “Her intelligence, sense of humor, and independent spirit was an inspiration to all who knew her. Always proud of her Brooklyn roots.  A passion for the theatre and arts, an avid student of cultural history, an amazing trivia expert, and, of course, an exceptional wife and mother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.”

 

She is survived by her husband, Herman Smith of Warwick; her children:  Cheryl Ackerly of Warwick, Larry Smith of Winter Park, FL and Cindy Smith of Bloomingdale, NJ; her grandchildren: Ryan Krieger of Bloomingdale, NJ, Graham Ackerly  and Erin Ackerly, both of Warwick, NY;  a sister, Mary Messaros of Damascus, PA; and beloved nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by a brother, Andrew Hone.

 

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all who cared for her at Harriman Dialysis Center, Middletown Dialysis Center, Valley View Care Center and Arden Hill Hospital during her illness.

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, from 7-9 pm and Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick.  Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.
