
James “Jimmy” McGovern of White Plains, (formerly of Warwick, NY) passed away after a brief illness on March 12, 2021. He was 47 years old.
Born in Bronx, NY on May 19, 1973, he was the son of James R. and Mary Ellen (Cossu) McGovern.
James was a graduate of Burke Catholic High School and Empire State College. He worked as an electrician with IBEW Local 3 in NYC and contributed to the rebuilding of Ground Zero after 9/11.
Jimmy was an avid fisherman. He was a true New Yorker and loved the Giants and the Yankees. A family statement reads, “Jimmy was simply the best. His kindness and compassion will outlive all of us.”
James is survived by his parents, James R. and Mary Ellen McGovern of Warwick; brother, Matthew McGovern of Queens; sister, Meaghan McGovern-Kennedy and her husband Robert Kennedy of Warwick; and nephews Bo and Finn Kennedy. He was also loved by many aunts, uncles and cousins, and many, many friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 16 from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 7 to 9:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17 at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
