Phyllis Vail, of Warwick, passed away on May 19, 2014 at Park Manor in Middletown. She was 87 years old.
Born on November 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. Vail and Gladys Van Ardsdale.
Phyllis graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A., majoring in geography and history, and then earned her M.L.S. from Pratt Institute.
She retired in 2008 as Director of the Port Jervis Free Library. Prior to that, she was the Director of the JeffersonTownship Public Library in Oak Ridge, NJ from 1980-1990, the Director of Okeechobee County Public Library in Florida from 1978-1980, and did library work in special and academic libraries such as Price Waterhouse, J. P. Morgan, Value Line Investment Survey, Dean Witter, United States Trust Co and Florida Atlantic University.
She was a member of the American Library Association, the New York Library Association, the Orange Library Association, the Public Library Association, the Special Libraries Association and the Women’s University Club of Middletown.
Among the many things Phyllis will be remembered for are her sense of humor and generosity.
She is survived by many friends who will miss her.
