died on June 10, 2006 at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ. He was 66 years old.
Born on September 24, 1939 in Otok Krk, Croatia, he was the son of Paul and Marija Strilcic Sgombick.
He was married to Carol Gomes Sgombick.
A family statement read: “John will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an exceptional role model. John believed in having a strong work ethic and great faith in God. He felt with those two things on your side you could never go wrong. We will miss his hearty laugh and his gentle way with his grandchildren. Having known him is to have known a great man; we are all better for having him in our lives.”
Mr. Sgombick received his undergraduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck, NJ and his graduate degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He was the owner of Metro-Pack in Newburgh, NY.
He is survived by his wife Carol, of Warwick; two sons: John M. Sgombick and his wife Meg, and Marc Sgombick; a daughter, Ann-Marie Pennings and her husband Bruce: six grandchildren: Jacob, John, Andrew, Erin, Kelly and Shannon.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 15th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Stephens RC Church, Warwick. Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.
