Gregory B. Brockunier, of Florida, NY, passed away on June 24, 2014 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. He was 62 years old, the son of Dorothy Kirk and Alfred Brockunier, M.D., of Pelham, New York. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Sharon McCurdy. He is survived by his wife, Dawn, brothers Alfred (Fred) Brockunier, James Brockunier, M.D., and Craig Brockunier, M.D., and sister Susan Hertz. His is a graduate of Pelham H.S., Paul Smith’s College, and Florida International University.
Well into a career as a manager at hotels, such as Coachman White Plains, Waldorf-Astoria NY, and Holiday Inn Denver Downtown, Greg succumbed to a soulful longing to be a tradesman in carpentry, and so did finish work in Manhattan for over a decade. With his brother Fred, he built a lake home for his mother, which the family will enjoy for generations.
He was a proficient sportsman, with particular passion for quarterbacking, boxing, skiing, and sailing. At midlife he earned his private pilot’s license and flew for helmsmanship and spirit over the breathtaking Northeast in his sweptwing Mooney. He enjoyed the Adirondacks year round; and with his family shared many deep winters of snowmobiling adventures.
His life was defined by his strength of character, quiet wisdom, and his loving devotion to his partner of thirty-three years and pup of ten.
Cremation and memorial gathering will be private.
