of Campbell Hall (formerly of West Point) passed away on December 31, 2008 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen. He was 74 years old.
Born on July 13, 1934 in Hart, Michigan, he was the son of the late Lloyd Norton and Elsie Hasty Norton.
He was married to Kathern (Kay) Placeway Norton for nearly 50 years.
Mr. Norton was a career Army man, retiring as Sergeant Major. He was a musician with the United States Military Academy Band, playing the Euphonium, for more than 24 years. He played with Salvation Army Bands for more than 40 years.
He was an active musician and played in many local and community musical groups.
He is survived by his wife, Kathern (Kay) Norton, of Campbell Hall; two sons: Andrew Brent Norton and his wife Linda of Goshen, and Craig S. Norton of New Lebanon, NY; two granddaughters: Erika Norton and Rebecca Norton; a brother, Graydon Norton of Whitehall, MI; and his step-mother-in-law, Margaret Placeway, in Michigan. He was predeceased by his sister, Donnavine.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 2, 2009, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Visiting will also be on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 am at the Salvation Army Chapel, 234 Van Ness Street, Newburgh, NY 12550. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Salvation Army.
