Thomas B. Langan, of Warwick, NY, passed away at Schervier Pavilion in Warwick on February 22, 2017, from end-stage Parkinson’s disease and pneumonia. He was 79 years old.
Tom, as his friends called him, was the youngest of three children born to Thomas B. Langan, Sr., and Elizabeth Williams Langan on April 16, 1937, in Greenwich Village, New York. His elder sibling, Mrs. Elizabeth Langan Boise, predeceased him on July 17, 2014, at the age of 84. Mrs. Maureen Langan Sweeney, his living sibling, is 82 and resides in New York City.
Tom’s mother and father thought it important that Tom receive a “proper Catholic” education, so Tom attended the Academy of St. Joseph elementary school in Greenwich Village; LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale, New York; and St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, New York. After college graduation, Tom returned to New York City to pursue a career in advertising.
Tom worked for or with numerous companies throughout his career, such as Avon, Burlington, Graniteville Specialty Fabrics, Courtaulds Fibers, Wyse Advertising Agency. In 1988, he founded his own advertising agency: T. Langan & Associates, Inc. He ran the agency until his retirement and full-time relocation to Warwick in 1998.
Tom is survived also by his life partner of 31 years, Allan R. Smith of Warwick; by his daughter, Miranda Langan DeMeo, her husband Michael, and their two children Annika and Lennox; and by his son, Stefan A. Langan, his wife Maruchi, and their two children Sofia and Alejandro. Tom’s daughter and family reside in New York City; Tom’s son and family reside in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Tom’s cremains will be interred ultimately in a family plot in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York. The interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Tom’s family thanks the nurses at St. Anthony Community Hospital for the exceptional, compassionate care they gave Tom during his final days.
