
Patricia (Augustitus) Van Gorder, formerly of Ridgefield, NJ, summer resident of Barry Lakes Lake Community, Highland Lakes, NJ, passed away on August 16, 2018 in Lincoln Park, NJ. She was 83 years old.
Born on November 16, 1934 in Chester, PA to parents John G. and Ursula (Baronowsky) Augustitus. Patricia was the loving step-daughter of Nicholas Fushino.
Patricia was the widow of James S. Van Gorder, Jr. who predeceased her in May 2018. James and Patricia were married 62 years.
She was a homemaker and volunteer who enjoyed serving others. Patricia volunteered her time as a Group Leader for The Campfire Girls, Den Mother for The Cub Scouts, Librarian at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic School, Eucharistic Minister at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of the ladies’ Auxiliary of Ridgefield Fire Dept. Co. #1. In her later years, Patricia took great pride in her job as a Greeter at Blackley Funeral Home where she worked for 20 years. She loved being in her garden, playing the lottery, being at the beach, crocheting and shopping for bargains. Throughout her entire life, Patricia’s faith was her constant companion.
Patricia is survived by her children, three daughters and two sons: Pamela Boschert of Westwood, NJ; Lauren Buhowski of Phillipsburg, NJ; Diane McNulty of Jersey City, NJ; James S. Van Gorder III of Florida, NY, and Thomas Van Gorder of Highland Lakes, NJ; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Sandra; a sister, Anna Augustitus; and a brother, Anthony Augustitus.
Visitation will be on Monday, August 20 from 4-7 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 185 Breakneck Road, Highland Lakes, NJ on Tuesday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m.
