
Charles Hunt, Jr., of resident Hewitt, NJ for more than 60 years, passed away on October 15, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Wayne, NJ. He was 90 years old.
Born on January 23, 1922 in Riverdale, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Brown) Hunt.
He was married in 1946 to June (Heinlein) Hunt.
An Army Veteran of World War II, he received a soldier medal for a sea rescue and was involved in the amphibious landing in the Philippines. Charles was a star athlete with Butler athletics and even tried out with the New York Yankees, but was called to serve in World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #289 in West Milford. Mr. Hunt was a Civil Engineer with Kenneth Wentink & Associates, Sussex, NJ and with Warner Brothers Jungle Habitat, West Milford. He was formerly the President of G. Waldo Rude & Associates, Pompton Lakes, NJ. He attended the Newfoundland United Methodist Church, was a member of the West Milford Elks, Post #2236, was a member of the Sussex County Beagle Club
He is survived by his wife, June Hunt, of Hewitt; a sister, Gail DiLaura of Pompton Plains, NJ; a nephew, Dean DiLaura, and a great-nephew, Dylan DiLaura; a sister-in-law, Lois Abbiati, R.N., of Wayne, NJ; a brother-in-law, Verne Heinlein, of Burlington, NJ; and several nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Theodore Hunt.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 17th, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
