Elizabeth Flaherty of Hewitt, NJ, formerly of Hackensack, NJ, passed away on February 12, 2023. She was 88 years old.
Born in Hudson, NY on January 17, 1935, she was one of eight children born to Stephen and Katherine (Ofsansky) Kuzmiak. She grew up on her family’s dairy farm in Ghent, NY.
Elizabeth was married to the late James W. Flaherty.
Elizabeth is survived by her sons Jim Flaherty and his wife Karen of Hewitt, NJ and John Flaherty of Hopatcong, NJ; brothers William Kuzmiak of Ghent, NY and Nicholas Kuzmiak of Middletown, NY; four grandchildren: Christian Cochran and her husband Caleb of Virginia Beach, VA, James Flaherty and his wife Kelly of Hewitt, NJ, Joseph Ford of Hewitt, NJ, Jessica Ford of Elmwood Park, NJ; four great-grandchildren: Connor, Channing, Charlie and Campbell Cochran. She was predeceased by her husband James and daughter Mary Flaherty Ford.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Church in Ghent, NY followed by interment in St. James’ Cemetery.
