George Antoniades

a 26 year resident of Warwick (formerly of Middletown), died on September 22, 2007 at Memorial Sloan--Kettering Cancer Center, New York.  He was 57 years old.

 

Born on February 22, 1950 in Kalavaso, Cyprus, he was the son of Helen Christopher Antoniades and the late Kostas (Gus) Antoniades.

 

He was the husband of Caroline Hayes Antoniades (formerly-Onody).

 

Mr. Antoniades served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion, Post #214 in Warwick.  He was the owner of  -“G’s”- Restaurant in Warwick, a family business of 40 years.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #544 in Warwick, a member of the Lions Club, a member of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, Middletown, where he worked on the Church Festival for many years. 

 

A family statement read:  “Almost anyone who knew George knew him through G’s Restaurant; it became his identity.  G’s was his home away from home and was one of the main motivating factors in his long fight against kidney cancer.  His employees and customers were his extended family, which is why he kept working until it was physically impossible for him.  George is loved and missed by his family and friends and hopefully his memory will last in the Warwick community for many years to come.”

 

 

He is survived by his wife, Caroline Antoniades, of Warwick; -three daughters:  -Elaine McCann and her husband Shawn of Hamburg, NJ, Vikki Garby and her husband Kenneth of Teaneck, and Alexia Antoniades of Warwick; -his mother, Helen Antoniades, of Myrtle Beach, SC; step-daughter, Caitlin Onody of Warwick; two step-sons: Sean Onody  and Torin Onody, both of Warwick;  four grandchildren:  Zachary, Melina, Zoi, and Lexi.  He was predeceased by two brothers, Michael and Nisiforos. 

 

Visitation will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Thursday at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 2250 Goshen Tpke, Middletown.  Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.
