Raymond J. Garvey

of Pine Island (formerly of Warwick) passed away on December 6, 2010.  He was 68 years old.

 

Born on October 21, 1942 in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late John and Susan (McGennity) Garvey.

 

He was married to the late Elaine Santiago Garvey.

 

Raymond served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and was a retired Police Officer with the NYC Police Department.  He was a Clerk for Peck’s Liquors in Warwick. 

 

A family statement reads”  Ray was a generous man, willing to help anyone, and he was a great story teller who will be greatly missed.”

 

Preceded in death by his son, James (Jay) M. Garvey in 2009 and a brother, Thomas Garvey, he is survived by his son, Raymond P. Garvey and his wife Lisa of Warwick;  his daughter, Christine Hoopman, of Milford, PA; five grandchildren:  Alyssa, Ryan, Sydney, Kyle and Andrew;  his brothers:  Kevin Garvey of Wolf Lake, NY, John “Jack” Garvey of MD, and Brendan Garvey of CT;  and his sisters:  Margaret Rose “Peggy” Lund of Treasure Island, FL, Ann Bridgett Lauffer of NYC, and Susan Buckman of Spokane, WA. 

 

Visitation will be on Friday, December 10, 2010, from 2-4 & 7-8:30 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 8:30 pm.  Private cremation.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Cty, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
