Mary E. Cossu, of Warwick, formerly of Queens, passed away on June 19, 2015 at Valley View Care Center, Goshen. She was 100 years old.
Born on December 30, 1914 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Frances L (O’Connell) Barry.
She was married to the late Roger A. Cossu (2005).
Mary served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Before retiring, she was a Cashier with the IRS in Brooklyn. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels in Long Island city. Mary loved to travel and read.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen McGovern and her husband James; her son, Roger Cossu; her grandchildren: James McGovern, Matthew McGovern, and Meaghan McGovern Kennedy and her husband Robert; great-grandchildren: Robert M. Kennedy IV and James Finn Kennedy. She is also survived by her sisters: Frances Naples and her husband Robert, and Eileen Schulhoff. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anita Romer, Grace Barry, Letitia Owens and Theresa Culley and a brother, Clarence Barry.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 21st, from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Monday at St. Stephens RC Church, Warwick, followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery.
