of Warwick, passed away, surrounded by her family, on March 7, 2010 at Arden Hill Hospital, Goshen, NY. She was 76.
Born on April 21, 1933 in Edgewater, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Augustus and Alice (Burke) Claes.
She was married to Francis J. “Buddy” Ryan.
A homemaker, Mrs. Ryan was a Crossing Guard in Englewood, NJ for 18 years. A former Girl Scout leader in Englewood, NJ, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Cecilia’s, Englewood. She formerly worked with disabled children at the Bergen County Center for Child Development.
A family statement reads: “Ellen was adored by the love of her life, her husband of 57 years, her three daughters, and her eight grandchildren, who loved her and will miss her dearly. She loved the beach, painting, knitting and crocheting. Ellen was the greatest wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend anyone could ask for.”
She is survived by her husband, Francis J. “Buddy” Ryan; her daughters: Colleen McIntyre and husband John of Tenafly, NJ, Terry Hurley and husband Jimmy of Warwick, NY, and Lisa Ryan-Grady and husband Dennis of Warwick, NY; her grandchildren: Casey, Jane, Kaitlyn, James, Mikey, Samantha, Patrick and Rory; sister, Catherine Carrano of Edgewater, NJ; a brother, Jack Claes of AZ. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Phillips.
Cremation will take place privately at convenience of the family. The family requests that you spend the day with a loved one in Ellen’s memory.
