
Mary Lou Vettel, of Goshen (formerly of Warwick), passed away on January 17, 2016 at Glen Arden Retirement Community, Goshen, NY. She was 71 years old.
Born on April 16, 1944 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Augustine Mulligan and Charlotte Johanna Telmosse Mulligan.
Mary Lou was pre-deceased by the love of her life, John Patrick O’Neill in May 1999.
Mary Lou was a self-employed Nanny and was a member of St. Stephens Church, where she was a teacher of CCD class for over 15 years, a Eucharistic minister, and head of the Columbiettes.
A family statement reads: “Although she was plagued with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, for the last year of her life, Mary Lou died as she lived, happy and at peace.”
She is survived by her children: Susan Fitapelli of Goshen, Chris Ann O’Neill of New York, NY, and John O’Neill of Brooklyn, NY; her granddaughter, Brianna Fitapelli of Monroe; son-in-laws: Patrick Fitapelli of Monroe and Jamie Schoffman of New York, NY. She is also survived by her siblings: James Mulligan, brother; Thomas Mulligan, brother; Joseph Mulligan, brother; Catherine Turner, sister; John Mulligan, brother; Denise Mulligan, sister-in-law; Lynn Mulligan, sister-in-law; Ron Turner, brother-in-law; Nancy Mulligan, sister-in-law; as well as all their children who called her Aunt Lou-Lou. Mary Lou is now watching over us with her sister-in-law, Jean Mulligan, who also very recently passed.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 21st at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sandfordville Road, Warwick, NY.
