Constance G. Brown, 93, of Williamsburg, VA (formerly of Warwick, NY) passed away on June 27, 2012.
Born on February 12, 1919 in Middletown, NY, she was the daughter of the late
Thomas B. and Esther E. (Johnson) Girard.
She was married to the late Edmund H. Brown, Jr. (1994), who was a former Trustee and Deputy Mayor of the Village of Warwick.
A graduate and valedictorian of the Class of 1937 of Middletown High School, she earned her BA in English from Middlebury College in VT and did graduate study work in library science at SUNY Albany.
Constance was a school and public librarian for many years and a substitute teacher. A former member of the Board of Trustees of the Albert Wisner Memorial Library in Warwick, she was one of the founders of the Friends of the Library in 1972, and served as a volunteer at the library. A former member of the Board of Friends of the Ramapo Catskill Library system, she was also a member of the Friends of the Middlebury College Library.
She was a member of the Board of Managers of the Orange County Home for Aged Women, now called The Promenade, in Middletown. One of the founders and first president of the Warwick Branch of the American Association of University Women, she was a former member on the Legislative Committee of the New York Division of AAUW. She was a member of the former Middletown Unit of the Newburgh Junior League, a life member of national Sigma Kappa Sorority, a member of St. Anthony Community Hospital Auxiliary, charter member of the Warwick Country Club, a member of the Historical Society of Warwick, a member of the Warwick Reformed Church and its Women’s Guild, and was an active fundraiser for Girl Scouts, Cancer Society, hospital, library and other local drives.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Brown Fiske and her husband Ronald of Fredericksburg, VA; her son, Edmund H. Brown III and his wife Eileen of Williamsburg, VA; three grandsons: Edmund H. Brown IV, Thomas S. Brown and Andrew L. Fiske; one granddaughter, Lauren C. Fiske, M.D.; a sister, Barbara Girard Scali and her husband Nick of Middletown; and four nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, July 1st, at Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, NY.
