of Sugar Loaf (formerly of Warwick), died peacefully on May 5, 2009 at his sister’s home in Sugar Loaf, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 53.
Born on January 18, 1956 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late James and Mildred Murphy, and was also predeceased by his brother, Thomas, in 1993.
A family statement reads: “Robert will be missed by all who knew and loved him.”
He is survived by his sisters: Florence Wood and her husband Robert of Warwick, and Patricia Plunkett and her husband Glen of Sugar Loaf; his aunts: Anna Timmons of Staten Island, NY and Jane Grabois of Washington Township, NJ; his nieces and nephews: Robert Wood and his wife Lorraine of Warwick, NY, Douglas Wood and his wife Amy of Florida, NY, Capt. Brian Wood and his wife Lt. Rachael of Fort Bragg, NC, Jennifer Caldwell and her husband Steve of Florida, NY, and Nicole, Matthew and Krista Marie Plunkett of Sugar Loaf, NY; and several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 7th, from 6:00-9:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday at St. Stephens RC Church, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550 in Robert’s name.
