
Dorothy Margaret (Uckele) Martin passed away peacefully on the morning of March 3, 2015 at Orange Regional Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Wife of the late Joseph Thomas Martin Jr.; beloved mother of Joseph Thomas Martin III and Barbara Reimer, caring mother-in-law to their respective spouses, Mary Martin and Stanley Simpson; devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves a legacy of compassion, humor, public service, and strength of spirit.
Dorothy is also survived by her adoring and grateful grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dawn Kessler and her sons Zachary and Jacob; Jennifer Martin and her children Josephine, James, and Katherine; Heather Stelmaszyk, her husband Edward, and their children Kealan, Rowan, and Nevan; Paul Reimer and his husband Anthony; John Reimer, his wife Stephanie, and their son Gavin; Laura Martin; and Emily Martin, and her daughter Simone.
Born and raised in New York City, then making her home in Nyack and West Haverstraw, she worked for Lederle Laboratories (American Cyanamid) in Pearl River for 25 years. She was a member of Empire Hook and Ladder of Upper Nyack Ladies Auxiliary and The Town of Haverstraw Board of Elections. She was a member of the Helen Hayes Hospital volunteer staff for over 15 years, receiving recognition and commendations for her work from the offices of Senator Joseph Holland, Senator Thomas Morahan, and President George H.W. Bush.
Dorothy was predeceased by her brothers George Uckele and William Uckele, and her sister Kathleen “Kay” Iaderosa. Dorothy will be remembered with love and affection by her family, friends, and neighbors.
The family will receive callers at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home 17 Oakland Ave, Warwick, NY Thursday, March 5th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Service and Mass will be held at Friday March 6th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY.
