a ten year resident of Middletown and a former 50 year resident of Warwick, passed away on August 31, 2008 at Horton Hospital, Middletown. He was 67 years old.
Elvon White, the son of Frank and Laura White, was born September 20, 1940 in Dumas, Arkansas. To this union, eight siblings were born. Later, the family moved to Tillar, Arkansas where Elvon attended Wolf Project High School and Loy Bayou Missionary Baptist Church.
He was married to Marjorie Rachel Logan White.
Mr. White was a Child Care Supervisor with Goshen Secure Center for 25 years. He was a member of the Civil Service Employees Association.
A family statement reads: “He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, stepfather and friend. He loved God’s earth, loved working in his garden and tending to his plants, and also enjoyed cooking.”
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Rachel White, of Middletown; his son: Elvon John White of New York City; his step-children: Thomas Logan of Warwick, Christopher Logan, Sr. of Hawthorne, Gearlin G. Pierce of Long Beach, CA, Stacey L., Pierce of Newtown, PA, Dolores Pierce-Ames of Middletown, Linda Pierce-Green of New Rochelle; seven grandchildren: Rachael Ames, Gabriel Ames, Christopher Logan, Jr., Portia Rose, Tracy Logan, Amanda Logan, and Jackson Pierce-Felker; two great-grandchildren: Leilani L. Logan and Marrisa Logan.
His parents, Frank and Laura and five siblings, Leslie, Mattie, Frank O., and Benny preceded him in death. He leaves behind sister, Orie Jackson (Pine Bluff, Arkansas), his twin sister, Evelyn Travis (Los Angeles, CA) and sister, Gorie Tape (Little Rock, Arkansas), one brother-in-law, Curtis Travis(Los Angeles, CA), and two sister-in-laws, Lucille White(Pine Bluff, Arkansas) and Marion White (Marymar, Florida) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 4th, from 6-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.
