Gerard R. Sweeney, of Greenwood Lake, NY, passed away on December 12, 2017 at St. Anthony Community Hospital. He was 73 years old.
Born on June 27, 1944 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Manus and Anna (Duffy) Sweeney.
He was married to Marilyn (Drape) Sweeney.
He served with the National Guard for seven years. Gerard was a retired New York City Transit Police Officer and was presently a Mail Carrier with the US Postal Service in Greenwood Lake. He loved gardening, was a sports fanatic, enjoying both football and baseball, and he loved history and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Greenwood Lake; his daughters: Kerry Guihan and her husband Stephen of Ossining, NY, Lori Anastasio and her husband Anthony of Greenwood Lake, and Jill Evers and her husband Brendan of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Alexa Anastasio, Anthony Anastasio, Matthew Anastasio, Andrew Guihan and Olivia Guihan. He was predeceased by a brother, Daniel Sweeney and a sister, Gertrude McAteer.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17th, from 1:00-4:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Funeral service will be at 12:00 pm on Monday at Grace Lutheran Church, Greenwood Lake, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
