
William H. Meyer of Warwick, NY, passed away unexpectedly on February 8, 2023 at Valley View Center for Rehabilitation in Goshen, NY. He was 81 years old.
Born in New York City on March 22, 1941, he was the son of the late Hermann D. and Anna (nee Luhrs) Meyer.
William proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 25th Infantry Division serving from the “Tropic Lightning” Schofield Barracks in Hawaii from 1958 to 1964.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, William was a bus driver for Continental Trailways and Shortline. He retired as a driver with MABSTOA. He was a Transport Workers Union Local 100 union representative. William then went on to work at St. Anthony Community Hospital in the purchasing department and retired from there. He also volunteered with the Warwick Valley Ambulance Corps as an EMT and EMT instructor. He was a member in good standing of the American Legion Post 214, Warwick.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sally Anne Valenson Meyer; daughter Jennifer Christian and her husband David of Warwick; son James D. Meyer and his wife Christan of Warwick; two grandchildren Aliyah Rose Meyer and Anthony James Meyer; sister-in-law Kathleen Sharpe of Maybrook, NY; nephews: William Sharpe of Maybrook, NY, Christopher Sharpe (Michele) of Montgomery, NY, Kevin Sharpe (Valerie) of Scotchtown, and John Meyer of HI; nieces: Nancy Meyer of OR, Danielle Sharpe of Scotchtown, NY, and Emily Sharpe of Montgomery, NY. Bill was predeceased by his brother Herbert D. Meyer and nephew Ryan Sharpe.
The family will receive friends for viewing on Thursday, February 16th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A funeral service will be on Friday, February 17th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
