Gertrude B. McGovern

Gertrude B. McGovern, of Warwick, (formerly a resident of the Park Chester section of the Bronx), passed away on June 7, 2012 at Schervier Pavilion.  She was 96 years old.

Born on May 21, 1916 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Anna (Donohue) Hynes.  She was the twin sister of the late Mary R. O’Hare and her husband Martin.

She was married to the late James A. McGovern (1990).

Mrs. McGovern was formerly a Secretary with St. John Vianney RC Church, Bronx and was a member of St Stephens RC Church, Warwick. 

She is survived by her children:  Gertrude M. McGovern, James R. McGovern and his wife Mary Ellen, John M. McGovern and his wife Barbara, and Daniel J. McGovern and his wife Catherine; grandchildren:  Kori A. McGovern Yioupis and her husband George, James McGovern, Kevin McGovern, Matthew McGovern, Bridget McGovern Fagan and her husband Christopher, Meaghan McGovern Kennedy and her husband Robert,Daniel McGovern, and Catherine McGovern; great-grandchildren:  Jack Yioupis, Ryan Yioupis, Matthew Yioupis, Sean Fagan, Thomas Fagan, Robert (Bo) Kennedy and James (Finn) Kennedy.  She is also survived by nieces Patricia O’Hare Rosen and her husband Barry,  Mary Alice Lee and her husband James, Barbara Tisdale and Suzanne Tisdale.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 10th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Monday at St. Stephens RC Church, followed by interment in St. Raymond’s Cemetery, Bronx.
