Amanda Hoover

of Warwick (formerly of Newton, NJ and Staten Island), passed away at home on July 24, 2009.  She was 89 years old.

 

Born on October 30, 1919 in Staten Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late John Oswald Hackett and Rose Mary Scheurle Hackett.

 

She was married to the late John F. X. Hoover, Sr. (1997) for 57 years.

 

Mrs. Hoover graduated from Newton High School, Newton, NJ  in 1937 and was an Administrator of the Barn Hill Convalescent Home in Newton.  She was the Administrator of St. Peter’s Cemetery, Staten Island, a member of the Ladies of the American Legion, a volunteer at St. Anthony’s Community Hospital, Warwick, and a parishioner of St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick, where she was a member of the Sodality Society.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen Karl of Sussex, NJ; three sons:  John F. Hoover  of Madison, NJ, Gregory G. Hoover, Sr., of Warwick, and Robert P. Hoover of Warwick; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Hackett, of Lords Valley, PA.  Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two sisters, RoseMary Ratti and Anastasia Lorenzo and two brothers, James Hackett and George Hackett.

 

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on Thursday at St. Stephen’s RC Church.  Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
