Richard D. Wegener, Jr., of Warwick, passed away on March 14, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. He was 66 years old.
Born on March 12, 1945 in Woodhaven, NY, he was the son of the late Richard and Gladys (Immel) Wegener.
Richard graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1962, and received an Associate’s degree in Arts in 1976 from Orange County Community College. He served with the Army in the Viet Nam war in the 14th Engineer Battalion as a Surveyor. He was a Fireman with the New York City Fire Department for 24 years, an active member of the Orange County VFW, an active member of Warwick VFW #4662, and a member of the American Legion, Warwick.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin Wegener and Keith Wegener, both of Tahoe City, CA; a sister, Marian Mozes, of Dover, NJ.
Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday, March 22nd, from 4:00-8:00pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Interment of cremated remains will take place at Orange County Veterans Cemetery privately. A celebration of Richard’s life will take place at 3:00 pm on Wednesday at Halligans Public House,
13 West St., Warwick.
