Diane M. Szambel of Warwick, NY, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2023, at home with her family by her side. She was 78 years old.

Born in Astoria, Queens, on December 9, 1944, she was the daughter of Albert and Muriel (nee Agena) Janecek. Diane was raised and lived in Flushing, Queens. She worked as a waitress for many years at Ginelli’s Restaurant in Fresh Meadows, NY where she learned her “regulars” names and usual orders. Customers often asked to be seated in her section.

Diane is survived by her daughter Holly Szambel; son Scott Szambel; and granddaughter Johnni-Rose. She was predeceased by her husband John and daughter Allison Szambel.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. Interment will follow the service in Flushing Cemetery, Queens, NY.
