of Warwick, died on May 4, 2007 at St. Anthony’s Hospital. He was 98 years old.
Born on December 20, 1908 in Florida, New York, he was the son of Joseph and Mary Geilie Karas.
He was married to the late Eleanor Myruski.
Mr. Karas was a Food Department Supervisor with Warwick Training School, Warwick, NY. He was a member of St. Stephen’s RC Church where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was the founder of the John and Eleanor Karas Educational Trust for the highest scholastic achievers at St. Stephens/St. Edwards school. He was a member of the Regina Coeli Legacy Society.
He is survived by a sister, Katherine Finch of Arizona; nephews: Edwin Myruski of Montgomery and Charles Karas of New Canaan, CT; nieces: Patricia Cosgrove, of NYC and Yvonne Kolesar of San Deigo, CA. He was also predeceased by a brother, Donald Karas.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 7th, from 5-8 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday at St. Stephen’s RC Church. Interment will follow in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
