Roy S. Drevitson

of Warwick, passed away on September 28, 2009 at Campbell Hall Rehabilitation Center, Campbell Hall, NY, after a short illness.  He was 95.

 

Born on July 12, 1914 in Burlington, Mass, he was the son of the late Otto M. Drevitson and Mary Lenord Drevitson.

 

He married Flora Karnan in the late 1940’s and they moved to Hanover, NH to live and raise a family.  In the 1980’s they moved to Warwick, NY to be closer to family. 

 

Mr. Drevitson served the Warwick area for 20 years as a Piano Technician, where he was on the job until he was 93 years old!  A musician in his own right, Roy played all woodwinds, the alto saxophone being his favorite.  An Army veteran of World War II, he travelled Europe, playing for the troops with the Armed Services Big Bands.

 

In July, Mr. Drevitson celebrated his 95th birthday with friends and family in Warwick where, in addition to some live music provided by his musician friends in the community, he received notes of congratulations from Congressman John Hall and President Barack Obama, for his service to his country.

 

He is survived by his son, Dana and his daughter-in-law Nancy Poulos; his daughter Lorna; and his grandchildren:  Dane, Juliane, Alyssa and Elaine.

 

Cremation was private.  Memorial visitation will be on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 3:00-5:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 pm.
