of Warwick (formerly of Highland Lakes, NJ and Harrington Park, NJ), passed away on January 26, 2009, surrounded by family. She was 85 years old.
Born on March 10, 1923 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Valentine and Ellen (Reilly) Flynn.
She was married to Maurice J. Ahearn for 61 years.
Mrs. Ahearn was a graduate of Lehman College. She was an elementary school teacher for many years, followed by a career with the State of New Jersey, retiring at the age of 70 as a tax investigator with the Department of Taxation. She was a member of St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick.
Her devoted husband and children have fond memories of long conversations with Mary on topics ranging from politics to her delight in her grandchildren. Obtaining her real estate license at the age of 83 is but one example of her lifelong love of learning.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice of Warwick; her children: Mary Pat Ahearn of Boston, MA, M. John Ahearn (Betty) of Albany, NY, Frank Ahearn (Donna) of Warwick, NY, Kathleen Koval (Ed) of Natick, MA, Bill Ahearn of Middletown, NY, Teresa Merkler (Doug) of Blairstown, NJ and Stephen Ahearn (Tim) of Los Angeles, CA; ten grandchildren: Kate and Matt Ahearn, Ryan, Megan and Kyle Ahearn, Ally, Noah and Zach Koval, Hannah and Claire Merkler; two brothers: Jim Flynn of Pasadena, MD and Edward Flynn of Oradell, NJ; a sister, Katherine McNeilly of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Flynn and sister, Christine Medeco.
Memorial visitation will be on Sunday, February 1st, from 2-5 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY. A memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 2nd, at St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick.
