Kenneth F. Tinklepaugh, of Warwick and formerly of Nyack, passed away peacefully at home with family on April 26, 2017. He was 81 years old.
Born on January 5, 1936 in Pittston, PA, he was the son of the late Harry and Esther (Green) Tinklepaugh.
He was married to Janice (Schroeder) Tinklepaugh.
Ken lived a life of compassion and service and his willingness to go the extra mile touched the lives of many. After graduating college, he was ordained to the ministry in 1960, serving congregations in Pennsylvania and New York for eleven years. He had a special gift for knowing what others needed and the desire to help them meet that need. This led him to the field of Probation, working with troubled youth and families. He was instrumental in starting a volunteer mentoring program now known as Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Rockland County. Ken also enjoyed serving as an adjunct instructor for King’s College/Briarcliff campus, assisting in the development of a Criminal Justice curriculum.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather and friend and we were blessed to have had him in our lives.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Warwick; his children: Cheryl (Timothy) Ferris of Marcellus, NY, Sandra (Jonathan) Franck of Warwick, Janice (Gordon) Graven of Warwick, and Steven Tinklepaugh (Robert Guerrero) of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren: Kait Barnum, Jeremy Ferris, Zachary Franck, Matthew Franck, and Christian Graven. He was predeceased by a son, David in 2005.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 3rd, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 4th, at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, 2440 Route 17A, Goshen, NY.
