On February 14, 2009, Gen passed away at home, quietly after a brief illness. She was 72 years old.
Born on February 21, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, Gen was a devoted wife, mother, and business partner with her husband and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was married to Ben Winstanley, Orange County Legislator .
Gen was a Budget Director with the Orange County Jail in Goshen and was co-owner of the Winstanley Advertising Company, New York City. She was very active in coaching softball and basketball with the Village of Greenwood Lake, as Youth Program Director in 1970 and 1980, and she was first vice chairman of the Town of Warwick Republican Party. An active athlete, she played softball and basketball for Equitable Life Insurance Company in the New York City Industrial League. She was active in organizing and running village and town elections.
She is survived by her husband Ben of Greenwood Lake; a daughter, Cathie Miller and her husband Ken of Dingmans Ferry, PA and grandchildren Katt and Colin; her son, Ben Winstanley and wife Deborah of Cornwall, NY, and granddaughter, Kelsey; a brother, Robert Pierson of Breezy Point, NY; a sister, Kate Cavalier of Chula Vista, CA; and her lovable chocolate lab “Penny”. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Pierson.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 17th, and Wednesday, February 18th, from 2-4 & 7- 9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday at St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
