Umbert (Al) A. Ciliberti, of Warwick, passed away on September 22, 2012 at Schervier Pavilion, Warwick. He was 87 years old.
Born on October 5, 1924 in Paterson, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Maria (Zuccariello) Ciliberti.
He served with the US Army C Company 573D Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion during World War II and played the piano in the Special Service Co., performing in enlisted men’s clubs, Officers Clubs, and camp shows. He was enlisted overseas in England, France, Luxembourg, and Germany. Once home, Al attended the Julliard School of Music in NYC and continued his passion for his piano throughout the rest of his life, performing in many jazz bands and trios and entertaining family and friends.
His civilian life included many entrepreneurial ventures including: music store owner, furniture store/refinishing business, real estate broker in Bergen County, NJ, serving as President of the real estate board in the early 70’s, construction business, and limousine service. He also had a passion for oil painting as a hobby.
He is survived by his daughter Tracey Luciano and her husband Michael of Pine Island, daughter Kristen Ciliberti of Warwick; his son, Frederick J. Ciliberti of Redwood, NY, son Gregory Ciliberti and his wife Vicki of Loveland, OH; his grandchildren: Madelyn, Abigail, Jessica, Lowell, Hunter, Joe and Katie; his former wife, Sandra Ciliberti of Westwood, NJ; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held at the Polish Legion of American Veterans, 16 Legion Road, Pine Island on Friday, October 12th, starting at 6:30 pm.
Interment of cremains will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 13th, at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, 111 Craigville Rd., Goshen, NY with full military honors.
