Michael J. Benvengo

Michael J. Benvengo, of Warwick, passed away on May 14, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Warwick.  He was 93 years old.

Born on August 17, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Giammario and Margaret (Caulo) Benvengo.

He was married to Rose (Talamo) Benvengo and next month (June 22nd),  they would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary..

Michael served as part of the Great Generation with the US Navy during World War II, participating in the invasions of North Africa, Fedala Bay, November 8, 1942, Sicily, July 10, 1943, Salerno, September 9, 1943, Normandy, June 6, 1944, Southern France, August 15, 1944, and South Pacific Duty CASU 56 Island of Mindoro, Philippines, 1945.  He was a member of the American Legion in Brooklyn.  He was a retired Mechanic with the Brooklyn Navy Yard and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Anthony Hospital and Schervier Pavilion for their outstanding care. 

He is survived by his wife, Rose (Talamo) Benvengo, of Warwick; his sons:  James R. Benvengo and his wife Karen of Warwick and Michael D. Benvengo, of Warwick; two granddaughters:  Christine Bertollo and her husband Nicholas of New Haven, CT, and Stephanie Benvengo, of Warwick.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 17th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, May 18th,  at St. Stephens RC Church, Warwick, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
