Helena Margareta (Nordenfelt) Erickson, most lovingly referred to as “Mormor” entered into eternal rest peacefully at home on Feb. 17, 2018 just 16 days shy of her 102nd birthday.
She was born in Åland, a chain of Islands between Sweden and Finland on March 4, 1916. She was the ninth of 12 children born to Werner and Julia (Soderberg) Nordenfelt. She moved to New York City in 1939 and married John-Erik Erickson (also originally from Åland) in 1947.
She was predeceased by her husband John-Erik (1978) & her two daughters: Greta Marlene (Erickson) Colin (1948-2003) and Ramona Elizabeth (Erickson) Walsh (1951-2011).
She is survived by her 7 grandchildren: Erica Sarnecky (Scott) of New Hampton, NY, Christina Daciuk (Christian) of Warwick, NY, Erin Walsh (Chris) of East Northport, NY, Shawn Walsh (Cherie)of Vernon, NJ John Colin (Casey) of Colorado Springs, CO, Elizabeth Colin of Aspen, CO and Christopher Colin (Juliana) of Warwick, NY as well as 1 step-grandchild Jeremy Walsh (Tara) of Garden City, NY.
She had 12 great-grandchildren: Carter and Charlotte Daciuk, Brooke and Emily Sarnecky, Brody Walsh, Austin & Helena Kinslow, Connor, Jack & Cooper Colin and Cora and Wyatt Green-Colin, as well as 5 step-great grandchildren: Megan, Ryan, Colin, Patrick & Brynn.
Mormor is also survived by her loving nephews, Richard Lindblom, his partner Nancy Meyer and Bobby Lindblom; her nieces Ann-Marie Gullo, Britta Larka, Britta Cagnazzi (Victor) and Beverly Malmbeck as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 11 a.m. Both visitation and the funeral service will be held at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, NY.
