of Goshen (formerly of Warwick), passed away peacefully on February 9, 2008 at Arden Hill Hospital. She was 92 years old.
Born on January 1, 1916 in Maybrook, she was the daughter of Umile and Anna Maria (Parafila) Marano.
She was married to the late Thomas Folino (1980).
Mary spent her early years in the insular and linear world of the Italian immigrants who labored in the railroad towns of Orange County. Her horizons stretched from Maybrook to Allentown, along the Lehigh & Hudson’s run. She learned to speak English when she entered school. In 1945, she met and married Thomas Folino of Warwick. She took over the management of a large household of younger in-laws. Mary never strayed far from her kitchen or garden and was a woman of faith. She did the work of ten women in raising her children, growing and selling fruits and vegetables and producing extravagant meals for every occasion. Visitors to her kitchen were never allowed to leave without platters of homemade treats.
Mary was a member of St. Stephen’s RC Church, Warwick.
She is survived by a son, Ross Folino and his wife Madelyn of Pine Island; two daughters: Mary Ann Davis and her husband Charles of Goshen and Lucille Decker and her husband Robert of Fair Oaks; her grandchildren: Marc, Matthew, Adrienne, Thomas, Julie, Claire, Mary, Stephanie, Robert, Jonathan, Erica and Spencer; great-grandchildren: Olivia and Abigail; a sister, Rose Lawrence of Campbell Hall; a brother: Antonio Marano of Montgomery; a sister-in-law, Isabella Manno of Warwick; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Marano.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 12th, from 8:30-9:30 am at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 am at St. Stephens RC Church. Interment in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
