Maurice J. Ahearn

Maurice J. Ahearn, of Warwick, NY (formerly of Harrington Park and Highland Lakes, NJ), passed away on August 25, 2011 at Schervier Pavilion with family at his side.  He was 89 years old.

 

Born on April 20, 1922 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Maurice Francis and Emily (Hejduk) Ahearn.

 

He was married for sixty-one years to the late Mary (Flynn) Ahearn, who passed away in 2009.

 

Mr. Ahearn was a graduate of Manhattan College, and then served with the US Navy during World War II.  He was a Civil Engineer and Owner of East Bay Paving Company in the Bronx.  In later years, he worked for the State of New Jersey as a Civil Engineer retiring at the age of 71. He enjoyed his summer home in Highland Lakes for many years, was a former member of the Warwick Country Club and a parishioner of St. Stephens RC Church.

 

He is survived by his children:  Mary Pat Ahearn of Boston, MA, M. John Ahearn (Betty) of Guilderland, NY, Frank Ahearn (Donna) of Warwick, Kathleen Koval (Ed) of Natick, MA, William Ahearn of Middletown, NY,  Teresa Merkler (Doug) of Blairstown, NJ, and Stephen Ahearn (Tim) of Los Angeles, CA.  Also survived by grandchildren Kate & Matt Ahearn, Ryan, Megan & Kyle Ahearn,  Ally, Noah & Zach Koval, and Hannah & Claire Merkler and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian Linehan in 2007.

 

Family will receive friends Monday, August 29th, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.  Memorial Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday at St. Stephens RC Church, Warwick, followed by interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, NJ.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org), the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the American Stroke Association (www.strokeassociation.org), three charities that were all close to Maurice’s heart.
