We are deeply saddened to announce the untimely passing of Edward W. Macauley on November 15, 2022. Edward was born on January 7, 1977 to Walter Macauley & Miriam Santos in Bronx Lebanon hospital.
From a young age, Edward excelled at anything he put his mind to. As a high school junior Edward joined the Army reserves. He went on to attend Seton Hall University and as a sophomore joined the ROTC, upon graduation he entered the Army as a second lieutenant. Edward served two tours in Iraq with the 31st combat support hospital. He was one of five critical care nurses selected to work in the ICU at Camp Bucca. During this time he was hand selected to escort and provide care on several MEDEVAC missions. He served as a triage officer and then a treatment nurse while providing lifesaving care to dozens of casualties during one of the largest scale mass casualty incidents since the Vietnam War. For these actions, he was awarded a certificate of appreciation. Affiliated awards include the Combat Action Badge, two Army Commendations and an Army Achievement Medal in addition to a long list of other accolades & accomplishments. He served over 10 years in the military and retired as a decorated Major in the United States Army.
Edward lived a vibrant life taking every opportunity to enjoy experiences to the fullest. He traveled the world making memories in countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Thailand, South Africa, England, and Mexico. He loved following his favorite musical artist, the Dave Matthews Band when they toured, and sharing the concert experience with those who were special to him. He was a passionate sports fan of the New York Yankees, the Philadelphia Eagles & the Washington Capitals and attended many games.
A family statement reads, “Edward was the kind of person who would perform random acts of kindness to strangers, and they usually resulted in a lifelong friendship. His presence and laughter were infectious. Edward was a compassionate nurse, a brave veteran, an irreplaceable friend, and a son to be proud of. Edward left a lasting impact on all who he came into contact with, and he will be dearly missed.”
Edward is survived by his parents Walter Macauley and Miriam Santos. His brother James Santos Jr. and sisters Rosanne & Yolanda Santos and niece Rosanne Simpson. He is especially missed by his Little Lil Heather Macauley. Other cousins include Kristin Macauley Aloisi & Kenneth Macauley Jr. Uncles William Macauley and Ken & his wife Carry Macauley. Aunt Evelyn Macauley. Edward joins in paradise his predeceased grandparents Margaret & Walter E. Macauley & Uncle Edward Macauley. Edward is also survived by many close friends & comrades who he considered brothers.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 28th at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick. Interment in Warwick Cemetery will follow the Mass.
