Hella Sousa, a former resident of Goshen, Newburgh, and Mt. Vernon, passed away on June 21, 2017 at Schervier Pavilion. She was 97 years old.
Born on May 28, 1920 in Oldenburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Hermann and Henrietta Schachtebeck.
She was married to the late Albano Sousa.
A homemaker, Hella was a talented musician, playing the harmonica and accordion.
She is survived by her daughter, Baerbel “Barbara” Brandao of New York City, a son, Willi Willms and his wife Eileen of Brooksville, FL, and a daughter, Monika Mohrmann and husband Werner in Germany; step-daughters Renate Heinz, Ingrid Scholz, and Gunda Kirsch in Germany; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren..
Memorial visitation will be on Saturday, June 24th, from 2:00-3:00 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Hella’s name may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
