John L. Mozart

John L. Mozart, of Goshen (formerly of NYC and Greenwood Lake), died on January 30, 2008 at Valley View, Goshen.  He was 87 years old.

Born on July 31, 1920 in Carlstadt, NJ, he was the son of the late John L. Mozart, Sr and Hilda Schleef Mozart. 

Mr. Mozart was a Custodian at The Master Institute of United Arts, Inc., NYC.  He has lived at The Valley View Center for Nursing Care & Rehabilitation since 1979.  He volunteered for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for many years and received many awards of service.  He received awards and letters from former Congressman Benjamin Gilman, County Executive Mary Mc Phillips and many other officials.  John even received a birthday card from President Ronald Reagan.  He was very proud of all this attention.  John was a resident that cut the ribbon of the opening of the Parry Building on May 18, 1997. 

A statement from his family reads: “To the administration and staff of Valley View – thank you all very warmly and sincerely for the excellent care you provided for our uncle, John Mozart,  during the 28 years he resided in your wonderful facility. You made a great contribution and improvement of his health, comfort and enjoyment.  This was truly his home and he loved everyone and everyone made him feel loved.  May God bless all of you.”

He is survived by his niece, Carole J. Ballas and her husband Chris of Warwick; their daughter, Cynthia J. Schecter and her husband Aaron of Middletown.  He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Coleman.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 1st, from 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick.  Funeral service will be at 10:00 am  on Saturday  at the funeral home.  Interment will follow in Warwick Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30am on February 20th at Valley View Town Center.
