Sr. Margie Ferri, 90, entered into eternal life on June 22, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospital in Warwick. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Anthony B. Ferri and Marie Editha Maher. She received her RN degree from the Medical College of South Carolina and pursued additional studies at St. John's University, Queens, NY and Seton Hall University, NY. She responded to a urgent need in Pires do Rio in Brazil to care for women and children.
She was a pioneer and advocate for women and children in Brazil. During her 17 year stay, she delivered many babies, found homes for others and contributed to the development of health care for the people of Brazil. Sr. Margie was the Regional Minister and teacher of our early Sisters in Brazil. She served in Congregational Leadership in the US. She contributed to the Mission of Franciscan Health System. Sr. Margie was also instrumental in planning and development, through the Franciscan Health System of the Warwick Campus (St. Anthony Hospital, Schervier Pavilion and Mt. Alverno Center) which later became Bon Secours Charity Campus.
Sr. Margie was loved, respected and admired by her Sisters, professional peers, friends and many others that she encountered in her daily life.
The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor wish to thank Doctors Scharfenberger, Cappelleri, Lavotshkin, Siegel, Silva and Xie and the nursing staff of Schervier Pavilion, the ER and ICU staff at St. Anthony's and also Fr. Jamie Bono, Tracy Kessler and Sr. Mary Spano for their compassionate care.
She is predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Marie; and her siblings, Mimi, Tony, Marie, Joe and Betty. She is survived by many nephews, nieces, sister-in-law, Barbara and Aunt Rena.
Wake to be held at Mt. Alverno Chapel on Thursday, June 25th from 3 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. at Mt. Alverno Chapel on Friday, June 26th.
