
Richard J. Matthews of Warwick and formerly of Chester, NY and Washingtonville, NY passed away on November 10th, 2014 at Andover Subacute and Rehab Center, Andover, NJ. He was 70 years old.
Born on January 7, 1944 in Tampa, FL he was the son of the late John E. and Adelaide Barbara (nee Jacobs) Matthews.
He was married to Rosemary Matthews (nee Piranio).
Richard worked for IBM for over twenty-five years in Sterling Forest, NY and was a member of their Quarter Century Club. He was also a Volunteer Fireman with Monell Engine Company in Washingtonville, NY and was Honorably discharged from the Army National Guard of New York.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary Matthews of Warwick, NY and his children Jason Matthews and his girlfriend Stephanie of Washingtonville, NY and his daughter Kristen Saporito and her husband Christopher of Mount Laurel, NJ and daughter Toni Constantino of Warwick, NY. Also surviving are two grandchildren Nicholas and Matthew Saporito and his mother-in-law Miriam Piranio of Warwick, NY. He is predeceased by his brother John Matthews, and his father-in-law, Frank Piranio.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 13, from 2-4 & 7-8:30 pm followed by a funeral service at 8:30 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. Cremation will be private, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
