
ALICE KENZIK of Warwick passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on June 4, 2012 at the Schervier Pavilion, Warwick, New York after a long illness.
A native of Nova Scotia, Canada, she was born on March 20, 1930 to Thomas Johnson and Anne (Hannan) McGill.
“Nanny” Kenzik was beloved for her kindness to all she came into contact with, her generosity, and joyful celebrations of special occasions like birthdays and holidays. She was a devoted and selfless grandmother who lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments. No one entered her house without feeling welcome or left it feeling hungry.
She went out of her way to make things special and was always there for her own children whenever she was needed, no matter what the occasion or need.
She was married for over sixty years to Frank Kenzik of Warwick, who survives her.
She was the mother of Debra (Kenzik) Cangro and her husband, Joe Cangro, of Spotswood, New Jersey; Carolyn (Kenzik) Mahon and her husband, Michael, of Warwick, and Brian Kenzik of Ronkonkoma, New York and his companion, Suzy Messer.
She will be missed always by her grandchildren, Lori Ann (Lomenzo) Vento and her husband John, of Spotswood, New Jersey; Michael Lomenzo of Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey; Scott Lomenzo and his wife, Dimitra, of White Plains, New York; Kerri Mahon, Kaitlin Mahon, Kristen Mahon, and Kimberly Mahon of Warwick, New York, and Kelle Kenzik of Ronkonkoma, New York, and her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Vento, John Thomas Vento, and Matthew Vento of Spotswood, New Jersey and Ryan Bernabe of Staten Island, New York.
She is survived by her brother Kenneth Johnson and his wife, May; her brother Thomas Johnson; her brother in law Thomas Kenzik and his wife, Jane Kenzik, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Anne Hannan McGill, her father Thomas Johnson, and her sisters Mary and Bernice Johnson, and her brother, Leonard Johnson.
She was retired from her position as secretary to the principal at St Gerard Majella School, Hollis, New York, and was a volunteer with the St. Gerard Majella Drum Corps for many years.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Lazear-Smith and Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Warwick from 2-4 and from 7-9.
A funeral Mass will be held at the St Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in Warwick on Friday, June 7, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., followed by a private cremation service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Schervier Rehabilitation Center located at 22 Van Duzer Place, Warwick, New York in gratitude for their loving attention to “Nanny” over her final weeks.
