
Eugene F. Casey, Jr., a Warwick resident since 1998, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, March 15th, at St. Anthony Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was 89.
A proud Brooklynite, Eugene was born June 12, 1926, in Kings County, son of the late Eugene F. Casey, Sr. and Mary McCaffrey.
Upon graduating from Brooklyn Tech High School in 1944, Eugene traded his cap and gown for a helmet and fatigues, serving on the frontline of the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division of the U.S. Army in World War II, where he was honorably discharged with a Combat Infantryman Badge after a two-year stint. He would later earn a C.E. degree from nearby Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.
The retired and respected civil engineer spent 23 years with the NYC Transit Authority, where he worked on several major projects, including the 63rd Street Tunnel Connector, followed by a second career as District Manager for the prestigious private engineering firm, Mason & Hanger, based out of Lexington, Kentucky.
Eugene was married to the love of his life, Anna Soye Casey, for 67 years and left behind many great memories with his two children, Rosemarie Hernandez of New Hampton, and former Edenville residents, Peter P. Casey and wife, Theresa, now of Ocala, Fla.
He also leaves behind three grandchildren - Peter R. Casey and wife Martina of Riverdale; Robert Yuli of Brooklyn; and Marissa Hernandez of New Hampton - along with one great grandson, Peter L. Casey. He was predeceased by brothers Peter and John; a sister, Helen; son-in-law, Angel Hernandez; and granddaughter, Christine Casey.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 18th, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave, Warwick, NY. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Saturday at St. Stephen RC Church, followed by interment in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen.
